How It Works
How are Think Tank HQ sessions run?
Think Tank HQ sessions follow a simple, clear structure designed to help people think and
communicate more effectively.
For every session, the topic is listed on the submission form. For debate-focused events,
informational resources are shared with participants before and during the session, and each team
receives a laptop for research and fact-checking.
Each session begins with a central question or scenario that the group explores together. The
facilitator guides the discussion, provides brief prompts, and keeps the focus on reasoning rather
than reactions or personal attacks. Materials given will vary depending on the topic.
Participants take turns speaking, responding, and challenging ideas in a respectful and structured
environment. This gives everyone the space to express their views, ask questions, and refine their
thinking without feeling rushed or judged.
As conversations develop, the group examines assumptions, compares moral or practical approaches,
and practices breaking down complex ideas into clearer parts. The goal is not to agree or “win,” but
to understand the issue more deeply and learn how to engage constructively with difficult topics and
opposing views.
Debate sessions follow an introductory structure for the first 20 minutes. Participants identify their
position on the topic and are grouped accordingly. After this warm-up phase, the discussion shifts
into a true debate format, supported by the facilitator and moderators. The aim is to help each
participant strengthen their reasoning skills and leave the session feeling more confident in their
ability to communicate.
Most sessions are filmed, and select moments may be shared publicly to highlight real examples of
thoughtful dialogue. Participants may opt out of filming at any time before the session begins.
No debate experience is required! You only need an open mind, a willingness to grow, and respect for
the process.
*During the pilot stage, sessions will run for approximately 45 minutes to one hour while we test and
refine the ideal timing for different types of topics.
